Apple Music surpasses 13 million subscribers

It’s gained three million users since January

Apple Music CEO Tim Cook has announced the streaming service has hit 13 million subscribers, marking a rise of three million since January.

The service is only 10 months old, but is already growing at a rate that matches market leader Spotify which has been in operation for close to eight years.

Some forecasters in the music industry were expecting even faster growth. However, due to there being one billion active iOS devices in use across the world. Still, its rise has been concerning enough for Spotify that the Swedish company recently raised $1 billion in convertible debt to combat the challenge posed.

An update to Apple Music, which has remained largely untouched since launch, is predicted to be previewed at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
