Apple Music is now able to stream unlicensed DJ mixes and remixes
Has the industry finally caught up to dance music distribution?
Apple Music, in a stunning deal with Dubset Media, is now allowed to stream previously unlicensed DJ mixes and remixes.
Copyright laws have historically comprised the wider distribution of white label records, mixes and other formats, but that seems to be an issue of the past. Dubset will put into motion a program called MixBank that reads mixes and pays royalties for the songs within accordingly while keeping a percentage of the revenue.
A large number of music listeners already listen to unlicensed content, but with a program like this payment can be dealt in a more fair way. Though there are still a number of hoops to jump over in terms of files than don’t clear because specifics with the legality of certain songs, the deal in place is still a huge step forward.
