Apple Music and Pandora have now removed R. Kelly’s music from playlists
The platforms join Spotify in making the move
Both Apple Music and Pandora have now removed R. Kelly’s music from their playlists following mounting allegations of sexual misconduct.
The two parties follow Spotify's move to remove the singer's music from all of its editorial and algorithmic playlists last week as part of its "hate content" policy.
Apple Music and Pandora were being urged by activist's from the Time's Up movement to do the same. Time's Up also recently backed a #MuteRKelly campaign and called on RCA Records and Greensboro Coliseum Complex to cut ties with the singer.
In a statement, Pandora said: “Pandora’s policy is to not actively promote artists with certain demonstrable behavioural, ethical, or criminal issues.
"We approach each of these scenarios on a case-by- case basis to ensure we address components true to Pandora’s principles while not overreaching and avoiding censorship.”
In March last year R. Kelly was accused of grooming a 14-year-old girl to be his sex "pet", and in April police investigated claims he had intentionally given a 19-year-old woman an STD and given her alcohol. He's also been been accused of holding women against their will in a cult.
R Kelly has denied all allegations.
