ANOHNI is overwhelmed with 'Hopelessness' in stirring new video
Visuals for the collab with Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never
ANOHNI shares the video for ‘Hopelessness’, the title track from her Mercury Prize nominated debut album, which pairs corporate lifestyle with medieval savagery.
The track, released in May 2016, is a collaboration with two of electronic music’s most innovative producers in Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never. As a departure from ANOHNI’s symphonic collaborations, it's a dance record with soulful vocals and lyrics addressing surveillance, drone warfare and ecocide.
Director Alexander Carver accurately describes the video for ‘Hopelessness’ as a pairing of two worlds: “Medieval barbarism and fascistic architecture haunt the fever dream of an anonymous corporate woman. Within the dream, distant past and distant futures are irrationally fused in a bizarre, iconic vision of martyrdom where animals are citizens and people are drones.”
