Amsterdam night mayor to speak at EMC Sydney

Fingers crossed Mirik Milan can help end the lockouts

Amsterdam Night Mayor Mirik Milan has been announced as the first keynote speaker for this year's Electronic Music Conference (EMC) in Sydney.

There's sure to be a captivated audience when he addresses the room, bearing in mind Sydney's nightlife has been suffering under its notorious 1.30am lockout and 3am last drinks laws since February 2014.

Milan is set to highlight the successes of Amsterdam’s nightlife policies and advise how other countries can implement similar solutions for a safe and thriving nightlife.

He'll also be discussing how a few other European cities have also employed a night mayor model and how this role can be a catalyst for dialogue between all nighttime economy stakeholders.

Keep Sydney Open recently called for a night mayor to be appointed in their city. We wonder whether New South Wales Premier Mike Baird will be in attendance at EMC 2016?

The conference will take over Sydney's The Ivy Complex for the November 28 to December 2 event, which also involves Q&A sessions, workshops and parties.
