Amsterdam’s Intercell cites permit issues for cancellation of summer event series
The event platform said its planned June show will go ahead as its “only Dutch outdoor event this summer”
Amsterdam event platform and collective Intercell has cancelled all events due to go ahead at its regular outdoor site De Binnenplaats this summer.
Intercell revealed that it was facing "permit issues" on Instagram earlier this afternoon, writing: "We know you’ve been [looking forward] to it and we have too."
"Tough one to deliver, but due to permit issues beyond our control, our series at the Binnenplaats sits out this summer," the team behind the collective said.

They called the courtyard where Intercell events frequently take place through the summer season a "staple for years", writing: "We’ll miss it this season."
They added that Intercell’s planned June show, set to go ahead at an off-site location named Balkenhaven, will still go ahead as planned on June 13 as its "only Dutch outdoor event this summer".
The team called the decision "bittersweet", adding that archive sets and full performances may be shared via Intercell’s TikTok and YouTube channels over the coming weeks.

The news comes just days after Amsterdam’s Music On festival cancelled its 2026 edition due to similar permit issues. It was called off just hours before opening to the public.
The team behind the festival, which was due to take place at Meerpark from Saturday, May 9, to Sunday, May 10, said they had "no choice but to cancel."
"This morning, the Municipality of Amsterdam revoked our permit to hold the festival," they said on Instagram. "We are shocked and deeply disappointed by this outcome."
