Alesso: A Short Film

A profile of Alesso

2013 was a massive year for Alesso. The Swedish DJ teased his fans until finally unleashing up his brand new worldwide tour that would cement him as a headline DJ alongside the likes of Avicii.

The Uprising Tour reached around the world including sell out performances in; North America, Australia, the UK and Asia. Not only did Alesso then hit Number 1 in the UK with Calvin Harris and Hurts through their track, 'Under Control', he also received a Grammy nomination for the best remix of 'If I Lose Myself' (Alesso Vs. OneRepublic), all in the space of two months.

Alesso continued his success with a sold out Brixton Academy date in December 21. Alesso's domination of 2013 led us to choose him as one of our DJs of the year, which is also why we decided to travel to Sweden to make a short film about the producer who is set lead us through 2014.

Shot in his hometown of Stockholm, the film portrays a vulnerable persona of Alesso as he honestly describes some of the emotions involved with performing and producing. Our director, Aubrey Woodiwiss, decided to leave behind the tried and tested on-tour videos and create a unique documentary that could stand alone as a visual piece of work and illustrate the artist in the most creative and real way.

The film is a collaboration between Mixmag and Olmeca Tequila. For the last decade Olmeca have been avid supporters of dance music and you can check out more documentaries in their 'Switch On The Night' series on their website. 'Behind The Daft Punk Helmets', and 'Dancers Of Ibiza' are two of our particular faves.

Alesso has performances coming up in South Africa at Ultra Music Festival Johannesburg and Cape Town Feb 14/15, in Miami, FL, March 30 and at the Coachella festival April 13/20. Listen and download his latest song 'If I Lose Myself' with OneRepublic here.
