The Southampton selector drops a Fabric exclusive
When it comes to compilations, Fabric's heralded mix series is one of the most respected in the game. To be inducted into, what is essentially, a hall of fame consisting of the world's best DJs is a perfect indication of the talent a selector holds.
Ricardo Villalobos, Matthew Dear, Robert Hood and Omar S have all dropped seminal mixes and now comes the turn of one of techno's leading figures. Having carved out a heavyweight, often crushing sound for himself via Drumcode, Alan Fitzpatrick is on a serious upward trajectory.
We premiered his soundsystem-bruising jam 'U Said U' last year and we knew the Southampton-born selector was destined for big things. After more whirlwind EPs and a ferocious Essential Mix on Radio One back in 2011, Fitzpatrick brings us Fabric 87 which will be launched this Saturday in London at the club.
It's a sumptuously savage entry to the mix CD's ranks and tracks from Mike Denhert, Marcel Fengler, Jimmy Edgar and Audion will have you flailing with intent. There's an exclusive cut nestled in the mix from the big man himself entitled 'Where Haus' and we've got the first spin. This one should come with a warning.
The kick drums are out of this world, the drops are devilish and the breaks, although short-lived, provide that much needed respite from the ferociousness throughout. Not for the faint-hearted but if you want your techno hard and unrelenting, Alan's served up a pearler.
Fabric 87 by Alan Fitzpatrick is out on April 15, pre-order here.* *‘Where Haus’ will also feature on the ‘Floor to Floor’ compilation on Dusky’s 17 Steps out in May, alongside tracks from Trevino, Dusky, Velvit, Lo Shea and many more.
