Afrodeutsche is set to present BBC Radio 6
The composer, producer and DJ lands a new role
Manchester-based DJ Afrodeutsche - otherwise known as Henrietta Smith-Rolla - has just announced her new title as a BBC Radio 6 presenter.
“It's not every day I get to say "Mum I'm officially a BBC Radio 6 Presenter”!!!” she wrote excitedly on Twitter this afternoon.
“That's right folks, turns out I DO have a face for radio! Can't quite put into words how excited and honoured I am to join the BBC 6 Music team!!! Literally shaking with excitement!!!” she said.
The British-born, Ghanaian-German-Russian-raised DJ also doubles up as a composer and producer, with a background in film and theatre composition.

Her work has ended up on the BAFTA and Oscar-nominated short film Kamali, previously saying, “I’ve always had a real love for film and scoring – making sense of visual images with sound.”
The DJ then went on to produce her own music after taking over her own NTS radio show slot, Black Forest, before releasing her debut album ‘Break Before Me’ in 2018.
Fellow BBC Radio 6 host Mary Anne Hobbs praised the DJ on Twitter following the announcement, saying:
“absolutely thrilled at this news Henrietta you are so welcome at BBC 6 Music can't wait to hear what you'll do with the show!! much love”

2021 has been a huge year for Afrodeutsche, she’s also been featured on Tresor’s 30th-year anniversary compilation with her July-released track and video ‘CAN’T STOP’. The compilation includes tracks from 50 prominent DJs and producers with affiliation to the label and club.
The electro DJ will be joining the likes of Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Iggy Pop, The Blessed Madonna, Craig Charles, and Don Letts on BBC Radio 6. Tune in to Afrodeutsche’s new weekly show produced by Reform Radio every Friday on the radio station.
