Acid house pioneer Charanjit Singh has passed away
His 1982 album 'Synthesizing - 10 Ragas To A Disco Beat' sparked debate whether he created acid house
Charanjit Singh, the Indian musician associated with the creation of acid house, has passed away.
The 75-year-old is said to have died in his sleep on Sunday morning in Mumbai, according to The Wire.
Although his album 'Synthesizing - 10 Ragas To A Disco Beat' was released in 1982, it was discovered in the early 00s by Dutch vinyl collector Edo Bouman, sparking debate whether the Roland TB-303 synth-fueled LP was the original acid house sound, before Phuture's 'Acid Tracks' arrived in Chicago. The album was then reissued on Dutch label Bombay Connection in 2010.
Apparently he was planning on heading to London for a live show before his death, with friends saying he had an Indian folk album in the works.
