A Russian artist has created a synth installation powered by his blood
He spent 18 months collecting the eight pints of blood required to power the synth
The Russian artist known as ::vtol::, real name Dmitry Morozov, has unveiled footage of his latest grisly art piece: a synth fuelled by his own blood titled Until I Die.
Morozov spent 18 months steadily collecting the 4.5 litres of his own blood that it takes to power the vampire synth that produces a sound through a small speaker. Electrolytes in the blood combine with aluminium and copper to produce a small electrical current.
The concept behind the work came from Morozov wanting to become one with his work, with the artist outlining “this device is something that is in all but name me, which uses my vitality to create electronic sounds.”
Until I Die was displayed in the Kapelica gallery in Slovenian capital Ljubljana last December. Perhaps Transynthania would have been a more suitable spot?
