A ‘Fear & Loathing’ TV series about Hunter S. Thompson is being developed

"We can't stop here, this is bat country!"

A new television series about the life of famed and controversial American journalist Hunter S. Thompson is currently being developed.

The biographical project, titled Fear & Loathing, is being helmed by Davey Holmes and will be a comedy drama set in the 1990s. The title comes from the iconic Thompson novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream, which was made into a film directed by Terry Gilliam in 1998 starring Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro.

The new show will focus on Thompson’s life during his time developing his unique approach to writing and pioneering gonzo journalism. Holmes shared his excitement for the project: “After resisting overall deals for years, I couldn't be more excited or proud to be embracing this one… It's a partnership with a studio that makes some of the most exciting television out there. I can't say enough about the intelligence, daring creativity and overall support MGM has brought to our collaboration.”

Mark Burnett, president of the show’s production company MGM Television Group, revealed more via a statement: “As we look to the future of MGM Television, it is imperative that we forge long-term relationships with creators who have an eye for dynamic storytelling. Davey is tremendously talented and has demonstrated that he can deliver quality programming that will resonate with viewers.”

No announcement has been made on who will star in the Fear & Loathing television series. Look for more information to surface soon.
