Body of newborn baby found in portaloo at Electric Forest Festival
A police investigation is currently underway, the Michigan festival has confirmed
The body of a newborn baby was found inside a portable toilet at Electric Forest Festival in Michigan on Sunday, June 28, local police have confirmed.
The deceased child was discovered by a member of staff during routine maintenance in the camping area of the festival, which was taking place at Sherwood Forest in Rothbury over the weekend.
Michigan State Police confirmed the discovery, believing the incident to be isolated. In a statement, they said an investigation is now underway.
"The Michigan State Police continue to investigate the discovery of a deceased neonate found Sunday morning in the camping area at the Electric Forest Festival," they said.
"Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance. If you were in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information that you believe may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward."
Police also asked the public to "avoid speculation on social media" out of respect for those affected, and urged anyone with information to email the Michigan State Police.
Electric Forest have since shared a statement on Instagram, saying they are "heartbroken" about the incident, and "know that our Forest Family is as well".
"Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you," they said. "Michigan State Police continue to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way."
No further information about the incident has been confirmed. Officials said that there was no known threat to the public as the festival continued on Sunday.
