fabric to host exhibition featuring paintings of UK underground legends

The installation will feature paintings of key figures including Kano, Mike Skinner, Stevie Hyper D, and the late DJ Randall

London's fabric nightclub is gearing up to host UK Underground Rave Culture, an evening of art and music that celebrates the scene.

Taking over Room 2 on December 6, the exhibition will feature oil paintings by East London artist Charlotte Archer of music icons such as Kano, Mike Skinner, Stevie Hyper D, GQ, Heartless Crew, and the late DJ Randall.

These will be accompanied by contributions from creatives who have inspired Archer’s work including fashion stylist and archivist Rhiannon Isabel, rave-era photographer Tristan O’Neil, and artist Junior Tomlin.

Announcing the news via Instagram, Archer said: “The paintings tell stories of those euphoric moments and once-in-a-lifetime connections made on the dance floor. Music and dancing have always brought people together, the need to exchange energy and connect with other humans goes back as far as we know.”

Adding that the installation will be “set within the walls of fabric… a culture landmark which has kept the UK's underground spirit alive”.

Mighty Moe from Heartless Crew will host the event and provide music alongside DJ Jamie Rodigan and Normski.

Visitors will then have the chance to join the 'Return of Playaz' party taking place in Room 1 – which recently upgraded its soundsystem – with sets by Hype and Hazard.

fabric celebrated its 25th birthday this year with a 30-hour party in October, and a new book documenting its history.

It also donated an old exterior sign to the new London Museum, which is set to open its doors across the street from the legendary venue in 2026.

An exhibition documenting the early days of acid house and history of rave culture in Liverpool between 1987 and 1999, is scheduled to display next January.

‘UK Underground Rave Culture’ will run from 5.30:PM to 10.30:PM.
