Netflix to release documentary around the life and legacy of Avicii
‘I’m Tim’ features never-before-seen interviews and footage from his final ever show in Ibiza
A brand new documentary surrounding the life and legacy of Avicii, AKA Tim Bergling, is coming to Netflix this year.
Set to debut on the streaming platform on December 31, 2024, I’m Tim tells the story of Avicii through his life and career, featuring some never-before-seen footage.
The documentary – directed by Swedish journalist and director Henrik Burman – comes more than six years after Avicii’s death, and looks at his final ever show at Ushuaïa Ibiza.
“This is the unlikely story of Tim Bergling, a shy and insecure boy who, without realising it, suddenly created one of the world's most loved artists - Avicii,” reads the film’s synopsis.
It continues: “Through unique home movies and a huge private archive, we get to follow Tim on a winding journey through life - from the very first breath at the maternity ward in Stockholm in 1989 to the tragic end in Oman in 2018.”
The film first debuted at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival in June, and features Avicii himself as the narrator alongside some previously unearthed interviews.
“[Tim] shares his inner self in a way we haven't heard before,” the synopsis reads. “Through himself and everyone close to him - family, artist colleagues and best friends - we get to know Tim - the boy behind Avicii - for the first time.”
Avicii’s final show took place in August 2016, almost two years before his death. He performed at Ushuaïa Ibiza before taking a break from performing live.
Rare footage from his final show was shared to his official YouTube last year, showing a clip of him performing his hit 2013 track ‘Addicted To You’ in front of enormous crowds.
