Patrick Topping to launch alcohol-free party, Sober October Rave

The Trick label boss has been performing sober since 2017, claiming it changed his “relationship with music and partying”

Patrick Topping is planning a new alcohol-free day party, Sober October Rave.

Set to take place next month in conjunction with the Macmillan Cancer Support scheme ‘Go Sober’, Topping hopes the event will “inspire someone to try their first sober rave".

Posting about the new party on social media, Topping shared that he has been performing sober since 2017 and claims it changed his “relationship with music and partying” and improved his mental and physical health.

“I’m not saying I’m fully against alcohol, every other event I play at sells it," he says. "I just want to offer an alternative for a night during Sober October, where people can come and not feel the pressure to drink but still have that communal experience of raving together and with other people on the same level.”

Topping continues: “I love the idea of people being able to come and not feel hungover or tired for days after, but instead just have a fully positive experience, where the music is central and it’s a really healthy, unique shared experience.”

In 2022, the artist spoke about his sobriety in an interview with Mixmag. He explained: “I went sober for a few reasons, mainly because I was sick of feeling horrific after a night on the drink or a bender.

"It had actually started to tarnish the enjoyment of DJing a little bit too, and was making the prospect of doing a gig seem daunting sometimes, because I knew I was in for a big one and the aftermath that followed. That was against why I got into this in the first place, I should be fully looking forward to all gigs.”

The event is currently still in the planning stage, but the Trick label boss is asking people to register their interest in the event as well as sharing which city they believe he should host the alcohol-free day rave.
