OneDa announces debut album, shares lead single 'The Western Way'

The full 'Formula OneDa' LP drops on October 4

OneDa has announced her forthcoming debut album, 'Formula OneDa', set for release on October 4 via Heavenly Recordings.

Ahead of its drop, the Manchester rapper and poet this week has shared lead single 'The Western Way'.

The track follows previous releases building momentum towards the full body of work - 'Major Pay', 'Set It Off', 'Superwoman' and 'Let Me In' - blending reggae-influenced vocals, deep basslines and an intriguing drum 'n' bass rhythm which meticulously dips and crescendos throughout.

"OneDa describes it as a metaphor for the western world," its press release reads, "a place seen as a land of opportunity where dreams can be realised if one is willing to take the shot."

It's been two years since launching her production journey, but OneDa's debut LP - inspired by a lyric from her song 'Off My Light' - shows her cross-genre versatility, spanning hip-hop, drum 'n' bass, afro-trap and afrobeat, paying testament to her Nigerian heritage and Manchester roots.

With empowerment at its core, too - particularly her journey towards self-acceptance, embrace of her queerness and personal freedom - 'Formula OneDa' also reflects her endeavours elsewhere; specifically, her leading of hip-hop therapy sessions for Manchester youth and supporting of initiatives such as Herchester, which amplifies marginalised voices in music. Looking forwards, the musician intends to establish a hip-hop therapy school for all ages, using music as a tool for positive change.
