DJ introduces fines for clubbers who ask for "over-requested" tracks
Colchester-based DJ Pressplay has printed signs warning club-goers of his new fees, which include a £1,000 charge to play The Killers' 'Mr Brightside'
A Colchester-based DJ has introduced a list of fees, or "fines", for club-goers who ask for "over-requested" tracks.
In an interview with The Daily Gazette, Colin-Gingell Good (AKA better DJ Pressplay) says he introduced written signs on his DJ booth at Coda nightclub, Colchester to counter people who “don't take no for an answer”.
“The majority of people request songs they personally love," Mr Good has said. "But it doesn’t always fit the vibe of the night or the crowd.”

He continues: “When I’m, for example, playing a disco and soul night — you won’t hear anything metal or something by the Foo Fighters, it just doesn’t fit.”
The tongue-in-cheek warnings were introduced as a reminder to respect DJ’s selections, and include fees for requesting overplayed hits, including Kings of Leon's ‘Sex on Fire’ listed for £250, and Oasis' ‘Wonderwall’ for £500.
The steepest track listed is The Killers’ hit ‘Mr Brightside’, which would cost listeners a mere £1000, a price which has seemingly warned off potential requesters with the track yet to be asked for since the introduction of the fees.
The list also includes fees for “birthday requests”, “songs that do not fit the night”, “insisting you know better than the DJ”, and “having your song played because you are leaving”.

Talking to the BBC, the DJ said, “A lot of people are great, they’ll come up and ask for a song that fits the night, but other people… they’re very demanding and don’t take no for an answer.”
He continued, “In a bit of a tongue-in-cheek kind of joke, I’ve put this sign up. It’s more of a polite notice that if you’re going to come up and not take no for an answer – you won't accept I’m not going to ruin the night just for you – then I’m going to pretend I’m going to charge you for it.”
