2K88 announces new album 'SHAME' set for release on Unsound label

The record will be available both digitally and on vinyl from June 28

2K88 - fka 1988 - has announced his forthcoming album, 'SHAME', set for release via Unsound on June 28.

The eponymous lead single is available now whilst second single 'GODMODE' landed on Friday (June 14)

As an album, 'SHAME' is set to embody the era and spirit of PL SOUND - a genre coined by 2K88 inspired by British soundystem music, but infused with social, urban and sonic themes developed during Poland's post-communist transformation.

It centres around an addictive bass sound with elements drawn from past eras of hip-hop, as tracks are built around samples and experiences of the generations that grew up with said sounds. Simultaneously, throughout the record, 'SHAME' intertwines sounds of ambient, dub, rap and jungle with flickering club basslines. It is this, a press release notes, that is "in keeping with his new, futuristic handle" of 2K88.

“’SHAME’ is an album where I draw heavily from what I most value in the UK sound, but I also inweave in stories, emotions, and character that have been an inseparable part of my background from the beginning of my career,” explains 2K88.

“The central theme of the album is Polish rap from the 90s and 00s, both literally and metaphorically. Literally, because I sample snippets of it. Metaphorically, because these snippets are used more as an essence, a nostalgic spirit of those times during which I was able to shape myself as a person. I have wrapped it in a form that I call the PL Sound, with bass, breaks, reverb, delay, dirt, and old-school jungle sound all put through the maze of my imagination.”
