Dr. Rubinstein makes her production debut with new EP, ‘Rubi’s Acid Spa’

The three-track release marks the first outing on her new imprint, Uppers and Downers

Dr. Rubinstein has made her first foray into production with three new tracks landing on her freshly launched label, Uppers and Downers.

The three-track EP, titled ‘Rubi’s Acid Spa’, landed on Wednesday (April 24) after debuting at a listening party on YouTube along with a live Q&A.

The record spent two years in the works, according to the producer, and takes inspiration directly from the dancefloor and feelings of nostalgia and home.

All three new tracks incorporate rolling drums, 303s, and acid basslines, a record inspired by rave sounds. Listen below.

‘Rubi’s Acid Spa’ is the inaugural release on Dr. Rubinstein’s brand new label, Uppers and Downers, a home for rave-inspired productions filling her “lifelong quest for the perfectly tuned rave space”.

“The idea behind the label is my own personal journey as an undiagnosed autistic person. Growing up, I could never find my place or feel at home anywhere,” she explains. “The very first feelings of home—of belonging and mutual understanding—came to me on the dancefloor, and I have never looked back!”

“When I started DJing, I was able to channel this feeling of home to dance floors all over the world in my sets, and after years of doing so, I feel ready and inspired to do the same as a music producer and label curator.”

The DJ and producer also thanked producer Dave N.A. for “helping me bring this project to life”, and Vova Livanov for his creative direction on the EP.
