Stormzy is hosting a Christmas party for residents of Croydon

It includes a “plethora of activities” such as games, performances, tombola, and workshops

Stormzy is hosting a Christmas party for residents in his hometown of Croydon later this week.

The rapper announced that the festive party would take place on Friday, December 3, and will include a number of games, activities, performances, and even prizes to be won.

Hosted across two different time slots throughout the day, the bash will take place during the daytime for those aged four and over, while the evening will allow only those who are 10 and above to join the party.

"It is a chance for the Croydon community to enjoy a day out and have a chance to win some very special prizes,” reads the press release for the event, which takes place in Croydon’s Fairfield Halls.

“The party, founded by an abundance of generous donors, will include a plethora of activities including games, performances, tombola, workshops and more with Stormzy also being present to join in the fun."

The festive bash is an effort to unite residents in Croydon - Stormzy’s birthplace - and bring together the community. It goes ahead as a part of the rapper’s #Merky Foundation initiative, a charity chaired by Stormzy himself.

During the event, the charity is also issuing 500 copies of Stormzy’s first #Merky Books children’s book - Superheroes: Inspiring Stories of Secret Strength. The comic book-style story celebrates everyday heroes and will be given to children at Friday’s event.

Both the book’s illustrator, Denzell Dankwah, and its author, Sophia Thakur, will be present at the Christmas party to teach workshops and live performances.

News of Stormzy’s festive bash comes shortly after he confirmed scholarship extensions to Black students at Cambridge University, another initiative started by the rapper in 2018. Stormy added 30 more students to the scheme in July.
