Avicii, the Swedish DJ who pioneered the EDM revolution, has died at only age 28.
The news has shocked the dance music community.
His publicist confirmed his death on Friday, April 20.
"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii," Diana Baron, his publicist said in a statement. "He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."
Avicii announced his retirement from touring and live shows in 2016. He was hospitalized in Miami in 2014 and was forced to cancel his headlining slot at Ultra Music Festival due to severe abdominal pain from gall bladder blockage.
A statement released by his label, Sony, reads: “We are mourning the incredibly sad loss of an exceptionally creative talent who we have been honored and proud to represent as one of our songwriters for a number of years. Our thoughts are with his family at this time”
