About Me

Mixmag Features Editor: I was raised in Killearn, a small village North of Glasgow, at the foot of the Campsie hills. Other Killearn residents include Robbie Coltrane, perhaps best known for his comedic tour-de force opposite Eric Idle in the classic movie, ‘Nuns On The Run’. The first word I ever wrote was Superman, and it’s fair to say that I wore a cape for much of my childhood.

I was then sidetracked into completing a law degree before discovering Hunter S Thompson, who for a few years took the place of Superman in my life and also sparked in me a burning desire to become a journalist. After a few more twists and turns including selling mobile phones, much waitering and, at one point, proofreading accountancy training software (worse than you could possibly imagine) I completed a post graduate degree in Journalism at Strathclyde University and travelled to London for work experience at Mixmag. I then hung around until I was offered a job.

After a couple of years of working freelance, gurning my way around the world on Mixmag road trips and getting into embarrassing situations while interviewing DJs, I took over as clubs editor in 2005 and graduated to features editor in 2007.

My role at Mixmag involves deciding with the editor which artists and stories to feature at length in the magazine, commissioning writers and editing their work. I also write features and reviews.
