XL Recordings' 'NEW GEN' brings together 17 young grime and rap stars
The roster features Ray BLK, Avelino and more
XL Recordings has announced its latest upcoming album, 'NEW GEN', a collaborative release celebrating the rising community of grime and rap.
'NEW GEN' brings on 17 fresh faces from the UK wave for the LP, curated to expose and represent the rising voices of the genres. Among the talent featured are AJ Tracey (pictured), Avelino and 67.
XL elaborates on the album's concept: "It serves as a timely snapshot of London's burgeoning underground music scene, as well as an introduction to those who may have missed these exciting young artists until now."
The contemporary issue stems from the original playlist series 'New Gen', curated by GRM Daily editor Caroline Simionescu-Marin. Caroline, now currently an A&R at XL Recordings, evolved the album through the New Gen Studio, a creative environment where songwriters, mixers, engineers and MCs were brought from around the country to connect.
