Watch the new Blade Runner short film scored by Flying Lotus
Directed by Cowboy Bebop's Shinichiro Watanabe
In anticipation of Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner sequel Blade Runner 2049, acclaimed anime director Shinichiro Watanabe has created a 15-minute short film titled Blade Runner Black Out 2022.
Working in conjunction with Villeneuve’s vision for the the upcoming feature-film starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, Watanabe’s animated piece picks up 15 years after the first film. In a similar style to Watanabe’s other work, Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, the short film delivers and anime aesthetic in order to dramatize some key events that occurred after 2019, when Ridley Scott's original Blade Runner movie takes place.
Fresh off the set of his film Kuso, Flying Lotus was selected to create the score for this violent and imaginative short. You can stream the entire anime short via Crunchyroll here.
