One of the points of differentiation between Cocoon’s retrospective Dots & Pearls and Sven Väth’s long-running Sound of the Season series has been somewhat blurred by the decision for Daniel Stefanik to mix the third instalment, but it naturally makes for a more cohesive offering.

Stefanik, working in a clutch of his own edits into the mix, deploys a brand of classic techno that’s more bubbling than wild torrent. One of those edits, Luca Ballerini’s spooky, dark tech cut Impressions Of A Dawn, acts as a bridge between a brace of Tim Green tracks, most notably his warped, tribal-tinged behemoth, Eclipse.

Ilario Alicante’s uncompromising, skeletal tool, Encounter, and the rolling, looping Concept, by fellow Italian Waveshape, with its strong hints of Bushwacka’s classic ‘Healer’, make for a well-rounded collection.
