Selects: Patrick Topping

Every week, Mixmag invites the world's most revered artists to bring us an Apple Music playlist, hand-selected by them and curated especially for your listening pleasure. From MK to Bonobo, the Selects series has seen a spectrum of tunes come through from major crate dig gems to the freshest tunes that are moving your favorite talents today.

Patrick Topping has tirelessly been climbing up the rankings as a cemented talent in the house realm. Arriving on Selects just after a week in Miami playing Ultra Music Festival's awe-inspiring Resistance stage and alongside Jamie Jones at Paradise, Topping continues his crusade well into 2016, a year that's practically set to be taken by the UK talent after being recognized as the "Best Newcomer" and ascending charts over the past two years.

This week, Patrick Topping brings us his must-listens of the moment that range from the first moment he stepped foot into DC10 to the latest tunes he's gotten hold of that still manage to bring him back to the dance mania era.

See what Patrick has to say about each of his carefully selected tracks below and tune in with Mixmag on Apple Music for more exclusives arriving every week.

DJ Deeon Gettoblaster - Back That Ass Up

This is a new ghetto house track, but it sounds as good as the old dance mania stuff that Deeon released so many bombs on.

DJ Bang - Stay In Step

Derrick Carter, under his DJ Bang alias, provides another wicked house tune. Love the hypnotic shouting vocals.

Robbie Hardkiss - Everything Is Changing (Hyena Stomp Mama Remix)

So good. Robotic voice and the synths give it a really cool vibe.

Metaboman - Next Please

The unusual samples and wonky sounds make it feel kind of all over the place, but I love the trippiness of it.

Phil Weeks – Jack To My Groove

My favourite Phil Weeks track - the perfect groove and jackin' vocal combo.

Par T One & Inxs - I’m So Crazy

This was the first song I ever heard when I walked into DC10 for the first time! Obviously, I had heard it before that as it charted in UK years before - and to be honest at the time it came out, I wasn’t bothered by it - but ever since hearing System Of Survival play it at DC10 that first time, I’ve loved it.

Jürgen Paape - So Weit Wie Noch Nie

This is just sounds lovely. Love the vocal, even though I have no idea what it's saying.

Kim English - Nightlife (Armand van Helden Remix)

The contrast of swapping between the vocals verses into that heavy, ravey sound and back and forth is mint.

K Reem - Triangle of Love

Reminds me of big love inner city, same kind of feeling but less well-known, so I love playing it even more, but it’s solid to mix! On Kevin Saunderson’s legendary KMS records from 1987.

The Pointer Sisters – Automatic

This just reminds of Grand Theft Auto Vice City! Such a classic soundtrack and such a fun song.
