Selects: Guy Gerber

With the next installment of Mixmag’s Selects series, Guy Gerber digs deep to deliver a collection of his favorite tracks, both old and new, in preparation for his stateside return with gigs in Miami and Los Angeles.

Since the launch of his RUMORS event series just over three years ago, Gerber’s distinct brand of club music has broadened its reach, first gaining traction in Ibiza and now all around the world.

As a DJ, Gerber favors extended sets and his selection tends to take listeners through a variety of danceable styles, shattering expectations with eclectic and captivating house and techno. This diverse taste is also channeled in the catalogue for his Rumors imprint, releasing music from the likes of Dixon, Seth Troxler, Lake People Chaim and Gerber himself all in the past few years.

For his Selects, Gerber showcases standout tracks from Talaboman, the collaborative project from John Talabot and Axel Boman, along with material from DJ Boring and Jenny Hval, as well as a few surprises.

Be sure to catch Gerber in Miami on March 24 for his Rumors party and in Los Angeles with DJ Harvey on April 1. Check out his Selects below.

John Lee Hooker 'Tupelo Blues'

This was recorded over 70 years ago, but I’m still obsessed with the intensity of it. One of my favorite songs/albums ever.

Jenny Hval 'Secret Touch'

I don’t know how I encountered this track, but I love that everything has delay on it - the vocals, guitar, drums, everything. Very beautiful and weird indie pop.

DFX 'Relax Your Body (Ricardo Villalobos mix)'

This is a truly magical track, I’ve been playing it a lot lately. Only DFX can make recycled vocals so fresh and cool. Very sexy remix, I just love playing this one.

Talaboman 'Loser’s Hymn'

A great album from John and Axel. This track is particularly beautiful. I recognize the chord progression from another song, but I can’t quite place it. I’ve been playing this one a lot lately.

Rae Sremmurd 'Black Beatles' ft. Gucci Mane

I’ve been getting more into hip-hop lately, and this was a standout song from 2016 for me. Black Beatles is definitely my favorite cut from Rae Sremmurd.

DJ Boring 'Winona'

This whole, new lo-fi scene is refreshing. Don’t take this one too seriously, but a great deep house track nonetheless. I just love listening to this.

Matthew Dekay & Lee Burridge 'Fur Die Liebe'

Such an amazing chillout mix, I’ve been listening to this everyday since I found it.

Brenton Wood 'The Oogum Boogum Song'

Just so damn funky! I can’t help but touch myself when I listen!

Guy Gerber & Deniz Kurtel 'Here Comes The Rain'

Shameless plug of my new track with Deniz Kurtel. It’s funny, we made this track over 3 years ago. Normally I don’t like listening to my own tracks, but this one is an exception. Although it’s a relatively simple track, I listen to this one beginning to end every time.

Too Short 'Blow The Whistle'

Just one of my favorite bounce/hyphy tracks ever. The scenes on the dancefloor while this track plays is just so f-ing hysterical to me, I smile every time.

Michael Prophet 'Love and Unity'

No description necessary, enjoy!
