Premiere: The Exaltics turn Mikron's 'Ulterior' into a gnarly electro experiment

Last year electro made a bit of comeback, not that it had ever gone away, but the razor-sharp, jagged-edged sound filtered back onto the main stages and big soundsystems.

Helena Hauff was one of the most popular DJs of the year as was Veronica Vasicka, the brains behind the incredible Minimal Wave and Cititrax imprints. Add to that some amazing performances from the king DJ Stingray and we were treated to a lot of slammers.

One label however that's been pushing a dark, dingy electro and techno sound over the past five years is ZONE and the label run by The Hacker, Gesaffelstein and David Rimokh has always been one of our favourites.

Releases by Maelstrom, Neil Landstrumm, David Carretta and Djedjotronic have all hit the spot and now Mikron return to the label for an EP that will jumpstart ZONE's 2017 campaign.

The duo present the 'Foresight' EP and as is usually the case with ZONE, it's not for the faint-hearted. The four tracker is another monstrous masterpiece and we've got the first play of the The Exaltics' remix of 'Ulterior'.

Riffs that sting are set against deep, powerful chords that float in the background creating the perfect electro juxtaposition and one we'd gladly hear out on big system.

This one's got Hauff written all over it.

The Ulterior EP will be released on January 9 via ZONE, preorder here
