Premiere: Circula's 'Techtonic' is a celestial trip

Circula is a producer hailing from Totnes who makes beats underpinned by bold basslines informed by his involvement in the Groundvibes Soundsystem crew and sound clashes across Devon.

Now based in Berlin, Circula has maintained close ties with the diversely-influenced Loose Lips collective, featuring on its label arm’s first ever compilation release in early 2015, and now set to put out the debut instalment in its new cassette series with a six-track EP titled ‘Thought Reel’.

The limited-edition tape cuts a path through spacey jazz, dubbed-out funk, warmly-textured electronica and more, featuring spoken word guest spots from newcomer Zaphod.

Our pick from the release is ‘Techtonic’, which takes listeners to the stars with twinkling, reverb-soaked piano melodies, touching upon a mood that simultaneously keeps the overwhelming vastness of space in mind with swelling bass and dampened percussive thuds. Listen below.

‘Thought Reel’ is out through Loose Lips on February 1. Pre-order it now via Juno, and visit Loose Lips’ Bandcamp for the digital download when it lands
