Pioneer's New Software Publishes Real-Time Set Lists

Earlier today Pioneer announced the release of Kuvo, an ambitious app/software platform that allows DJs to publish their set lists in real-time and be accessed from anywhere around the world. The technology aims to connect the decks of the world together and create a global network of clubs, DJs and fans and offer a death-blow to the culture of Shazaming in clubs.

The concept itself is fairly simple: The Kuvo hardware box is plugged into the CDJs at the club and subsequently streams information into a vast, pulsing techno cloud. Through the app clubbers can find information about which DJs are playing where and what tunes they are spinning at that very moment, even allowing you to 'like' and purchase them via iTunes or Juno.

Endorsed by the likes of Richie Hawtin and Seth Troxler, the technology is set to completely transform the way in which we find out about new music and brings the DJs and independent record labels even closer to the fans.

While this is an undeniably empowering tool for the DJs and fans alike, it's hard not to imagine that Kuvo might rattle the cages of the old guard that yearn for the glory days spent noising up record shop clerks and sniffing boxes of vinyl. Even change is changing...
