Moby announces new album exploring spirituality and the brokenness of humanity
Going back to his trip-hop and gospel roots
Moby has announced his new album titled ‘Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt’ and has shared the project’s lead single, a reinterpretation of ‘Like a Motherless Child’ featuring LA-based soulstress Raquel Rodriguez.
The forthcoming album, set for release March 2, 2018 via his own Little Idiot imprint, will be Moby’s fifteenth studio album. The overall motif of the new material “is a glowing tapestry exploring spirituality, individuality and the brokenness of humanity and finds him returning to his orchestral, soul, trip-hop and gospel roots.”
Inspiration for the overall sound profile found on the new album comes from iconic artists like Grace Jones, James Brown, Soul Makossa, Talking Heads, Gil Scott Heron and more. Moby has also made a playlist to showcase his influences.
The lead single ‘Like a Motherless Child’ describes the void left when one feels separated from a parent, higher power or similar guiding force. In the past it’s been covered Odetta, Lena Horne, Mahalia Jackson, Laura Mvula and Van Morrison.
