Marcel Dettmann set to curate next Dekmantel Selectors compilation
A "pre-techno" take on his musical journey
Techno titan Marcel Dettmann is next up for a Dekmantel’s Selectors edition, with what he describes as a, “pre-techno compilation”.
Following celebrated compilations from Motor City Drum Ensemble and Young Marco, Dettmann’s compilation promises to showcase another side of the praised DJ, with a look back to the start of his musical journey.
Charting his new wave, post-punk, industrial influences, the compilation is not a mix CD, but a collection of tracks hand-picked by Dettmann from his own vinyl archives. “It was a great opportunity to dig deeper into my own musical outlook,” he explains. “The tracks come from a time before I became a DJ.”
From Cabaret Voltaire’s “Low Cool” to A Thunder Orchestra’s “Diabolical Gesture”, the tracks may be remastered but they remain undoubtedly vintage gems, representing a personal journey into Dettmann’s past.
Selectors 003 is out June 23 and available to pre-order now.
