Justin Stedmans is a graphic designer skilled at drawing classic music production hardware. Last year we ran an article featuring a series of vector images he created depicting pieces of kit spanning Moog synthesisers to Akai samplers.

For his latest work, Stedmans has designed an infographic which charts the history of the drum machine from 1980 through to the present day, starting with the Roland TR-808 and moving through gear from LinnDrum, Akai, NI, and a handful more Roland instruments.

The infographic details steps of the drum machine’s evolution with informative paragraphs and aesthetically pleasing illustrations.

Check out each stage in the gallery above or on Stedman’s analog_this website. Prints are available to purchase here, and you can keep updated with his work through the the analog_this Facebook page.
