Laurent Garnier has received the French Legion of Honour

Laurent Garnier is being awarded for his services to music over the last 30 years.

The DJ and producer announced on Facebook he is receiving the Légion d'honneur (French Legion of Honour), the "highest French order for military and civil merits".

Dedicating it to those who have supported him for three decades, he wrote: "I am deeply touched to receive the highest decoration French honorary for having served and defended a music which, originally, has undergone so many prejudices and caused so many misunderstanding.

"This distinction is not only the consecration of my 30-year career, but that of a collective history."

He added he's filled with "emotion and pride" for being given the accolade and hopes it will influence the next generation of artists.

Quincy Jones, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney and Miles Davis are among the other musicians to have received the award in the past.
