Jeff Mills awarded medal by France's Order of Arts and Letters
High praise for contributing to French culture
Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills has been recognized for his significant contributions to the arts in France, being named an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters.
At a private ceremony held at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, Mills was presented with a medal from the organization’s president Jack Lang, who shared the news on his Facebook.
It’s not uncommon for a foreigner to be awarded the Officer’s medal in France, as Pharrell, Elton John, Tim Burton and Van Morrison have all received the medal in the past for their impact on the country’s arts. This is also not the first time Mills has been recognized in France, having been a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters since 2007.
In other Mills related news, the producer had a track featured on Soma’s 25th anniversary compilation and also released ‘Planets’, his electronic/classical album about the planets in the solar system, in March.
