Sweat-soaked underground dance music

Guide: Rushmore

Rushmore
has emerged as one of the hardest hustlin' DJs on the London underground.

Let's take a look at his CV: House Of Trax, the party he runs with Fools, just turned three years old. Since 2012 the rave has hosted MikeQ, Venus X, DJ Earl and Paul Johnson as well as Moleskin, Georgia Girls and Spooky, representing foreign and local talent from the ballroom, footwork, ghetto house, club and grime scenes. His label, Trax Couture, is now four 12"s deep and has so far been a vehicle for his sweat-soaked, ghetto house and electro-indebted productions, as well as one signing, conceptual Miami artist/cyborg PX$H6XD (pronounced Poshgod). Its offshoot, Trax Couture World Series, has been putting out monthly digital releases from burgeoning international producers, including Imaabs (Chile), Sylvere (France) and Dreams (US). He's even found time to design a crisp T-shirt series and start a club/streetwear-related fanzine. Put simply, his work rate is currently peaking at 110 per cent.

All this activity means that the 31-year-old has become a key part of a global network of artists, label managers and promoters who have dedicated themselves to underground dance music that's designed to make you work while on the floor. The House Of Trax party line-ups read like a who's who of pioneering artists while Rushmore's dedication to unearthing and promoting new talent via Trax Couture World Series is clear to see (and hear, just check Dreams' red hot contribution for example).

"If I could pin it down to one thing," he says when asked about what he likes best about the music he reps, "it would be the energy, it's raw. I think most of the genres that I'm influenced by have a fresh and unique energy in the way they are produced and the vibe they bring to a room." That explains his choice of bookings and artists to release, but also his production style. As you can hear from his exclusive production mix below, his tracks nod toward electro, ghetto house, ballroom and techno, and are all bound by an emphasis on rough-hewn groove.

Get acquainted with Rushmore below and don't sleep on him, either. He tells us more projects and collaborations are on the way plus, most importantly, lots more music.
