Bang & Olufsen now brews beer fused with musical vibrations

Danish audio and electronics manufacturer Bang & Olufsen venture outside its normal channels to producer a new beer dubbed Beobrew IPA.

Helmed by Bang & Olufsen’s sister company B&O Play, the beer is produced with audiophiles in mind. With that, the brewing process for Beobrew IPA uses methods that many might consider unorthodox.

In order to fuse the essence of Bang & Olufsen with beer, the company linked with Mikkeller, a microbrewery in Copenhagen. During the brewing process brewers submerged the Beoplay A1 speaker inside a fermenting tank and played a playlist by Danish DJ and producer Le Gammeltoft, featuring Danish talent specifically.

Head Brewer Kyle Wolak explained why the music and vibrations are the fifth ingredient: “By playing music in the fermenting tank, we are adding a fifth ingredient that takes the beer to a new level. As the music plays, it pumps out a unique pattern of vibrations that assists the yeast during fermentation and encourages the yeast to produce more flavourful esters that it would have without the presence of music.”
