Utrecht is getting a new 800-capacity club called WAS, located in the laundry room of the defunct Werkspoor Cathedral factory in the city’s northwest region.

The over-21 venue is set to open in September, and will operate a booking policy covering all kinds of electronic music spanning disco, house, electro and techno with one or two parties taking place each month.

WAS’s head of programming Veronique De Leon has spoken to RA about the plans for the club.

She said: "We came across the venue a while back and instantly knew we wanted to do something with this place. We want to leave the original construction as intact as possible to maintain the unique character.

“The programming will be fully electronic (disco/house/electro/techno-orientated) and will be focussed on extra long sets for the artists to give them the freedom and time to play what they want. Also, my goal is to invite artists that haven't played in Utrecht before or that you don't see here very often. We also want to support the local scene so for each edition I will invite a Utrecht name as a support act."
