They say you get what you pay for so when you book a budget flight to Ibiza, you shouldn't really expect too much from it. Losing an ear, though? That's not really on your mind as you take off.

It did happen, though. This week a lad on a Jet2 flight from Newcastle to the Balearic island was subject to a "sickening attack" which left his ear "hanging off" as the flight prepared to land at Ibiza airport.

A passenger on the plane spoke to the Mirror about the incident and if you're a little squeamish when it comes to these sorts of things, you might want to stop reading now.

He said: "When the plane was taxiing to Ibiza Airport the guy came running down the plane towards his friends. He took his T-shirt off and we could see he was covered in blood and that half his ear was just hanging off.

"The steward took him to the front of the plane. We never saw the person that did it but they guy was shouting: "Someone just bit my ear off. Who does that?"

Police are investigating the incident according to Jet2 and the victim's been receiving medical treatment in Ibiza.

Let's hope he can ear the tunes OK in Amnesia, Space and wherever else he'd planned to go...
