This would've been incredible

A venue with moving walls was set to be built next door to Ministry Of Sound, according to the architecture firm enlisted for the work, but plans were "mysteriously" scrapped.

OMA, which claims it won a competition in 2015 to head up the design, has shared digital images of the proposed building, one which shows a mechanically sliding wall at the building's entrance in Elephant & Castle, South London.

Another image depicts the venue with seven floors, including two below ground and two VIP areas, one that would have a roof terrace.

According to Dezeen, OMA partner Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli said: "Apparently we won the competition (we were told so) but then mysteriously and surprisingly the project was cancelled.

"The result of our work was a combination of a dynamic design – an experiment on a double identity – and of applied research into the status of nightlife and its spatial implications."

Ministry Of Sound chairman Lohan Presencer elaborated on the matter: "We commissioned the designs and worked closely with OMA on this concept...Unfortunately the Peabody scheme was delayed for reasons beyond our control. We will be announcing our long-term development plans for the club in the near future."

If it went ahead, the venue would have housed a "variety of spatial experiences" based on whether it was day or night.

OMA has not specified why the project did not go ahead.
