CLASSIC COVER CD
To celebrate Mixmag's 30th birthday, we're uploading some of our most legendary cover CDs. Chosen by our staff, these are the mixes that rocked the office stereo and sent some of the biggest names in the game on their way to stardom. Next up, Loco Dice
Loco Dice's 'Minimal Explosion' mix appeared on the October 2005 issue of Mixmag, marking a statement of intent from an artist pushing a sleek, stripped-back, highly rhythmic form of house and techno. At the time he was a resident of DC10 and busy laying the foundations of a career that has seen him start a new party at Ushuaia, tour the US with Richie Hawtin and create a mix CD for Defected. And that's just in the last 12 months alone.
As well as being one of the hottest properties on the Ibiza and worldwide party circuit, he also helms Desolat, the on-point label he runs with Martin Buttrich. Home to tINI, Guti and Hector, it's a real staple of the dance music community and further conveys the refined, sexy 4/4 sound Loco Dice is known for.
Back in '05, he was the new darling of the White Isle thanks to a record bag bursting with tracks from Pantha Du Prince, DJ Red, Ellen Allien, Luciano, Marc Houle and Koerner & Treplec, all of whom can be heard on 'Minimal Explosion'. So, take a trip back to when the cult of minimal was gathering pace and listen to a selection delivered by one of the genre's main protagonists.
