What do people on the island think of Ibiza Shore?

We hit the streets to find out

MTV plans to bring its Shore series to Ibiza. Having nailed Newcastle, New Jersey and a fair few other locations, it looks like an unbearable gaggle of uber-douches (see the illustration above) will soon be hitting the White Isle.

Obviously the reaction hasn't been positive: local politicians hate the idea of the TV show and a Beefa businessman even tried to buy the rights to the Ibiza Shore name to stop it happening. But despite all this, MTV remains adamant that filming will begin in September.

So, apart from seething bureaucrats and righteous entrepreneurs, what do people on the island actually think of Ibiza Shore? We trawled Ibiza's beaches, supermarkets and pool parties to gauge the reaction of tourists, seasoned workers, DJs and residents.

This is a disaster for Ibiza and all the people who live here. When you have a programme that only wants to focus on parties, drugs and drinking it makes Ibiza look ugly, and the island has so much more to offer. We realise that MTV is a good thing; it's not bad for the island. MTV connects music lovers across the world. But Ibiza Shore is rubbish, worse than rubbish – it is base. The people that live here on the island know that Ibiza isn't just about partying and drugs and alcohol, but the programmes on TV always seem to focus on those things, promoting the people with small brains. Along the way, the real vision of Ibiza is lost. Ibiza Shore may be a reality TV show, but it's not actuality portraying the reality of the island and all of us that live here – the locals and the English – don't want it.

For me, it's not something that will affect what I love about the island. However, if Ibiza Shore were to come to some of the special beaches here and start filming while I'm playing an underground set, I probably wouldn't be very happy. Perhaps we should just let them know where they are welcome!
