The Identification of Music Group: Where no track is left undiscovered

Really, REALLY need that ID?

That's not to say that group isn't without its faults. There are a couple of classic, now almost frowned upon in-jokes that raise smiles and eyebrows in equal measures. Replying "Darude 'Sandstorm" to any track was a very regular occurrence, so much so that commenting with it now can result in an instant ban. To this day we don't think we've seen a track posted more times than 'Steady Note' by Daniel Bortz, again prompting people to reply with it even if it sounds nothing like it.

There's also countless people requesting IDs from Patrick Topping and Skream sets and reposts of songs that have been ID'ed already, which some members don't take too kindly to. But in my opinion, it shouldn't really matter who's asking for a tune to be ID'd or who played the set – as long as it gets the correct ID, then fair play.

One of the most hotly-debated posts we've seen came from someone posting an audio recording from Berghain. In came the waves of people arguing whether a recording of any sort from Berlin's hallowed venue should be posted at all, making for interesting, heated reading.

With any rapid growth over a relatively short amount of time, there's going to be some friction. More recently there have been a few notable cases of misogynist comments but what's most affirming is the readiness of the group to shut down such behaviour and to rally together against something wholly unwelcome – yet still rife – in dance music.

If you act like a dick, you're going to get ruined and that's what's most important. Like I said, 99 per cent of the time it's a joy to see people joining forces to help you find your most wanted music. It's nice to wake up and scroll through the group on a Monday after the weekend's antics to see just how many amazing parties are going on around the world and how many people are genuinely enthusiastic about discovering new electronic music.

So here, we praise the members of the IoMG for their hard work, for their dedication to music and their strength in keeping order within a very large community of people. We hope it expands, we hope it stays fresh and we hope people abide by the rules, just as so many of the existing members do. For those wanting to join, it's a closed group, but I'd bet a lot of money that at least one of your mates is in there, beavering away through the gold. Once in, you'll know why the group has so many fans.

Keep on striving for greatness IoMG, we're watching, we're listening and we're applauding.
