Miami Music Week 2017: Mixmag's top party picks

It's that time again for just about every single name in dance music to descend to Miami for the busiest week of the year.

Hundreds of events and gatherings, from giant-scaled music festivals to extremely intimate and curated showcases, Miami Music Week brings in every crowd, every genre and every type of party.

Mixmag has narrowed the massive roster down to a handful of key events picked for the most exciting or unique line-ups and party vibe.

The week kicks off with a huge extended set from Joseph Capriati playing for Link Miami Rebels. The Miami Music Week Monday tradition will be held at Trade featuring Capriati from open to close.

Annual Behrouz & Friends at Wall Lounge (Wall Music Week 2017)

Wall Lounge starts its exclusive Wall Music Week with a pure techno and house night from Audiofly, Blond:ish, Behrouz and more. The deep and spiritual showcase will be the 10th annual Behrouz & Friends event brought in collaboration with Do Not Sit and KNR.

The Modern Love Affair at Wall Lounge (Wall Music Week 2017)

Ahead of GET LOST, Damian Lazarus touches down for the tropical-themed Modern Love Affair. The second installment of Wall Music Week features Lazarus with Art Department, Bedouin and Lauren Lane.

Return of the Night Boat, Detroit Love Edition at Biscayne Lady Yacht

The first major boat party for the Miami Music Week crowd is curated by techno legend Carl Craig for his Detroit Love series. Craig will be going back-to-back atop the Biscayne Lady Yacht with fellow Detroit mainstay Seth Troxler and the banging techno connoisseur Dubfire.

Mastermix Miami Boat Party at Biscayne Lady Yacht

The Biscayne Lady Yacht sets sail again for the highly-anticipated Mastermix Miami Boat Party. On the decks are the infamous lads of the underground scene Skream and Jackmaster, joined by Jasper James. Impromptu back-to-backs and expert curation is well expected from the trio of long-time friends.

DJ Harvey and Seth Troxler at Basement Miami

One of the more under-the-radar events, Seth Troxler will play with DJ Harvey for a legendary night. The pairing is extremely rare and and will likely be one of the most coveted sets of the week. Iconic for sure.

The Divine Movement featuring Gina Turner & Friends at Drinkhouse Fire and Ice Bar

Gina Turner will be flexing girl power at The Divine Movement event. The gathering is curated as a complete spiritual journey with guided yoga workshops, meditation sessions and house sets from Turner, Girls Make Beats, Cry Baby and Bonnie Beats.

Rapture Electronic Music Festival at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park

One of the week’s most massive events is a full-on mini festival taking place all day at Virginia Key Beach Park. The debut of Rapture Electronic Music Festival boasts a jaw-dropping line-up with five stages and beachside activations. The oasis-styled celebration will bring talent like Carl Craig, DeWalta, Francesca Lombardo, M.A.N.D.Y., Andhim and Matthew Dear just to name a few.

Paradise in Space at Space Miami

A classic Miami staple and one of the best of the series, Jamie Jones’ famous Paradise party is as always, expertly curated with world-renowned talent and bringing only the finest atmosphere. On this year’s bill is Green Velvet, Joris Voorn, Cassy, Solardo, Danny Tenaglia and Patrick Topping.

Honey Soundsystem is bringing their revered San Francisco based party to Miami for an exclusive one-time event. The intimate speakeasy space will be headlined by Honey Soundsystem with special guest appearances by Kim Ann Foxman and Mike Servito.

Playdifferently Presents at Space Miami

Richie Hawtin brings another impressive PLAYdifferently showcase to Miami with an all-star team of Model 1 ambassadors at Space. Nicole Moudaber, Matador, Luciano, Hito, Julia Govor, Paco Osuna and Victor Calderone will all take the decks with Hawtin across the massive club.

HYTE Miami at Mana Wynwood

Berlin’s famous warehouse curator HYTE drops into Miami to bring techno titans to Wynwood. HYTE's known around the world for booking the most elite acts at large-scale venues and this party will feature regulars Chris Liebing, Loco Dice and Danny Tenaglia along with exciting additions like Maya Jane Coles, Black Coffee and Tiga.

Hector Presents Vatos Locos Miami at The National Hotel

Hector brings a bit of The BPM Festival to Miami with his famed Vatos Locos party. The head curator is joined by fellow Vatos Locos member David Gtronic with the event boasting an added element to its usual island vibe from Cassy, Stacey Pullen and Behrouz.

Another huge Miami classic, the 24-hour insanity that is GET LOST by Damian Lazarus. Presented by his label, Crosstown Rebels, the event’s name takes quite the literal route with its infamous other-worldly nature. The unbelievable line-up includes Art Department, Audiofly, Skream, Jonas Rathsman, Pan-Pot, Thugfucker, Guti and many more.

Claude VonStroke presents The Birdhouse Miami at The Delano Hotel

Claude VonStroke’s classic The Birdhouse parties get a twist for Miami Music Week. Joris Voorn, Skream and Honey Dijon join the Dirtybird master for his classic event series, upping the ante as one of the most intriguing artist rosters of the week.

MOSAIC by Maceo Plex at Soho Studios

Maceo Plex’s MOSAIC celebrates the combination of underground styles and sounds. His Miami installment will be one of his greatest to date as he enlists the Berlin techno goliath Marcel Dettmann as well as Stephan Bodzin and Mike Servito for the unique segmented warehouse space.

The Martinez Brothers 24 Hour Party at Space Miami

The Martinez Brothers close out MMW with a 24-hour party at Space featuring three curated rooms. On the main decks are the bros joined by a handful of mind-blowing special guests. The coveted Detroit spirit will be in full force with the likes of Carl Craig, Derrick May and Matthew Dear also hopping on the decks and the fresh addition of Andhim plus Bedouin.

Desolat X Ovum at Heart Nightclub

Two immense label showcases blend on Miami Music Week’s closing night for a full combination blow-out. Loco Dice’s Desolat and Josh Wink’s Ovum offer a top-drawer line-up at Heart Nightclub where Wink will join Guti, Tiga, wAFF, Ellen Allien and surprise special guests.

KMS 30-year Anniversary at The Surfcomber

A vital element of Detroit techno history, Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records celebrates 30 years of incredible music, curation and parties. The label, celebrated as one of the core leaders of underground culture, gives little details about the party. Regardless, a celebration of this stature is expected to be one of the week’s best. Saunderson is the only name listed, but as a techno founding father, he’s guaranteed be joined by grand talent.
