“It was all super-fast,” he says. “Two years later I’ve found myself playing all over the world. I never planned this kind of future for myself!” As Oceanvs Orientalis (Latin for ‘Eastern Ocean’ and taken from an ancient map found by Şafak), he’s gone on to play all over Europe and the Americas, including shows at Heart Ibiza, Burning Man and Wilde Renate in Berlin.

As Safak prepares to wrap up his current summer tour and release his latest offering, the ‘POP’ EP, he isn’t worried about where life may next take him. From his accidental unique twist on electronica to chance encounters with label heads, the story of Oceanvs Orientalis is one full of happy accidents – even living in Ibiza was something he says he never dreamed of. “In the end,” he tells us, “I feel I’ve found what I’ve always needed and was always looking for.”

Oceanvs Orientalis’ ‘POP’ EP will be out in August via Kanto Records
