Sonar is back for its 19th year and on top of announcing a massive line up for its Barcelona home, has also revealed three further events across the globe, as we reported back in December.
Touching down in four continents, Sonar will be hitting Africa for the first time with ‘A Taste of Sonar’ on March 2 in Cape Town, before returning to Tokyo April 21-22, Sao Paulo a month later, May 11-12 before closing with the biggest of them all, Barcelona between June 14-16.
Sonar Barcelona features US hip hop juggernauts The Roots, along with the technical prowess of ISAM by Amon Tobin, shows by Deadmau5, and Diamond Version.
Along with established names like Fatboy Slim, Richie Hawtin, and Modeselektor, the underground is strongly represented with talented young artists like James Blake, Blawan and Julio Bashmore.
Taste of Sonar, the one day event being held in Cape Town’s city hall March 2, is headlined by Modeselektor, with Brodinski and Byetone providing experienced support. Also on the bill are a whole range of nascent South African artists such as BLK JKS and Das Kapital.
Sonar Tokyo features a strong UK contingent in Squarepusher, Cinematic Orchestra and Mount Kimbie.
Sonar, São Paulo however boasts possibly the biggest line up featuring names as like Bjork, Justice, James Blake, Mogwai, and Hudson Mohawke.
