Exploring how Nigeria’s dancefloors are the source for national pride

Smirnoff and Mixmag bring viewers of the ongoing documentary series Global Dancefloor to the vibrant country of Nigeria for this new episode.

It’s no secret that Nigerians are proud of their vibrant culture and the energy that comes along with it. It all translates perfectly to the dancefloor, as local hero DJ Spinall explains how he’s brought his love of the music back to the community with his collective and label, Da Cap.

There’s no question that within Nigeria, there’s plenty of musical talent still yet to be uncovered. DJ Spinall taps into the diverse beauty of the artists he works with by focusing on the importance of showcasing various types of sounds. This is evident in his work with fellow Nigerian musical innovator Wizkid, the R&B-influenced Niniola and afrohouse artist Simi.

“I’ve always been looking for ways to help and to inspire somebody out there,” DJ Spinall supplies. “That’s what Da Cap music is about - we share ideas, it’s a family thing. We want to be there for everybody from both new artists to established ones. It’s open to all.”
